Are Swedish House Mafia Releasing New Music Next Week?

Following a mysterious message on the screen during their headline UK set at Creamfields over the weekend, could Swedish House Mafia be set to finally drop their first single since ‘Don’t You Worry Child’?

The iconic separation and subsequent reunification of Swedish House Mafia has no doubt been one of the biggest events in Electronic Music in years. While they made a bang with their Ultra 2018 set, the trio has been surprisingly quiet on the release front.

It’s Day 3 of Creamfields and Swedish House Mafia have shut-down the main stage for their set. “06.09.19” lights up the black screen in-between moments of high energy as they wowed revellers for the final day of a sold-out festival. The set was their only UK date for the year, so a tease like this can only mean something big is coming. But is it new music?. Well, let’s look at the possibilities here.

A new tour could definitely be on the cards. The Swedish trio only has Lollapalooza Berlin and the Singapore Grand Prix confirmed in their schedules right now, and there have been plenty of rumours. Axwell recently teased intentions to perform in the US, and we’ve heard whispers that Swedish House Mafia will be heading to Australia in the not so distant future.

While a world tour may be in planning, it will more than likely follow or coincide with the announcement and release of a new album. Therefore we think that it is unlikely they’d reveal the date of a new world tour to an audience who just paid to see them perform.

Previous hyped announcements from the super-group have turned out to be merch releases leading to vocal disappointment from a significant number of fans. At this point, we feel new merch without music might not be received so well. While diehard fans are forgiving, the pressure is definitely on the Swedish trio to put their name to new music. So if it is a release finally coming, what will it be?.

With many new ID’s teased in their action-packed live sets and of course many we haven’t heard, it’s impossible to guess. Two notable tracks stand out as strong contenders though, ‘It Gets Better’ which is supposedly featuring Pharrell and ‘Underneath It All’ it is reportedly featuring vocalist Andrew Wyatt.

‘Underneath It All’ and is an incredible emotional record that will definitely give goosebumps to any long time SHM fans. ‘It Gets Better’ on the other hand is a heavy hitter, similar to ‘Greyhound’ and has served as their opener for their shows. Axwell and Steve Angello have also played it out in their recent solo shows.

With Swedish House Mafia not having the best time in the public eye since cancelling several shows – this would be the perfect time for them to release new music. The last release was ‘Don’t You Worry Child’, which would have its 7th anniversary on September 14th – a week after this upcoming date.
